MKT Season 2020 Started!

First day of the 2020 paddle season in the books for Meadowlands Kayak Tours! Great kickoff to the season with a strong group of paddlers and favorable tides in both directions. Capped the trip off seeing two bald eagles at Raptors Point. Our Covid-compliance measures added a slight twist to our on-shore activities but once we were out on the water it was masks off to enjoy the day outside.

MKT is ‘Covid-Compliant’ for the 2020 Season!!

Meadowlands Kayak Tours offers ‘Covid-compliant’ paddling for the 2020 season!

  • All tour groups will be required to maintain social distancing—6’ separation, no handshakes or contact among tour members on- and off-shore. Max. group size 5 people. Check our specials for family discounts.
  • Masks required at all times on-shore at the boat ramp. If you do not have a mask, you will be issued a disposable mask for the day’s use. You may remove your mask while on the water (please maintain social distancing + ‘yak buffer).
  • All paddles and ‘yak handles are disinfected after each tour. We no longer offer free hand wraps, water booties, hats, or snacks, so BYO if you need them.
  • Check with your group the morning of your tour to confirm none of them are sick or symptomatic. We’ll contact you to confirm the morning of your trip. Anyone sick or exhibiting symptoms (fever, chills, nausea, exhaustion, loss of sense of smell) should stay home, per CDC guidelines. Any tour cancelled due to rain or illness (or threat of illness) is not charged for.

As for the tour itself, we’ll be kayaking in the marshes and on the river far from other people—so join us for a beautiful and safe day out on the water!

The MKT Fleet

The full Meadowlands Kayak Tours fleet mustered for action. That’s 4 on top and 3 in the bed of ‘Red’, including the tandem.

Kayaking Season 2019 In Effect!

Thanks for Joining Us 2018!

With the sudden chill in the air I think it’s safe to say the 2018 kayaking season is over for Meadowlands Kayak Tours.  Thanks to everyone who joined us this season, our inaugural year!  We look forward to more paddling adventures in the Meadowlands with you next year.  2019 season kicks off in April!

Wildlife Seen So Far This Season

2018 has been another year of first-time-seeing for a number of species in the Meadowlands for us. In addition to the milestone return of harbor seals to River Barge Park in late winter, once the season officially started we logged sightings of Semi-Palmated Plovers, squadrons of Black Skimmers, and of course Great and Snowy Egrets in their gorgeous white plumage. Just upriver from our launch at River Barge Park, Raptor’s Point saw lots of drama this season, with the family of Red-Tailed Hawks apparently pushed out by a pair of Osprey after their young ones fledged (both species have been seen at the Point, but the Osprey are more frequent occupants now, unlike years past).  Cromakill Marsh has been hosting large flocks of Least Sandpipers. Also seen: majestic Great Blue Herons, Terns, Red-winged Blackbirds, Tree Swallows, Barn Swallows, Cormorants, Gulls, Snapping Turtles, Muskrats, and a Red Fox.
